Ontario Kicks Off 2026 with a Bang: Over 1,800 OINP Invitations Issued

By Harkiran Singh Sidhu February 2, 2026

February 2, 2026, marked a massive start to the year for provincial immigration in Canada. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held its first major draws of the year, issuing a total of 1,825 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for provincial nomination.

If you are a healthcare professional, an early childhood educator, or a skilled worker willing to live in regional Ontario, this draw sends a clear signal: Ontario is actively seeking your skills this year.

The Breakdown: Who Got Invited?

Ontario conducted six targeted draws across three major streams under the Employer Job Offer category. The province focused heavily on addressing labour shortages in healthcare and early childhood education, as well as supporting regional economic growth through the REDI initiative.

Here is the snapshot of the February 2nd draws:

1. Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream

  • Health Occupations & Early Childhood Educators: 634 invitations (Min. score: 36)
  • Physicians: 129 invitations (Min. score: 33)
  • REDI (Regional Economic Development) Candidates: 14 invitations (Min. score: 44)

2. Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream

  • Health Occupations & Early Childhood Educators: 1,015 invitations (Min. score: 56)
  • REDI (Regional Economic Development) Candidates: 26 invitations (Min. score: 69)

3. Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream

  • REDI (Regional Economic Development) Candidates: 7 invitations (Min. score: 34)

Key Trends to Watch in 2026

Healthcare Remains Priority #1 More than 1,600 of the 1,825 invitations went to candidates in health occupations and early childhood education. With minimum scores as low as 36 for foreign workers, the barrier to entry for these critical professions remains lower than for general streams, reflecting Ontario’s urgent need for nurses, physicians, and childcare workers.

The Rise of Regional Immigration (REDI) These draws featured specific targets for the Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative. This pilot is designed to help employers in rural and northern communities (specifically Lanark County, Leeds and Grenville, Sarnia-Lambton, and Thunder Bay) fill vacancies that can’t be filled locally.

If you are struggling to meet the CRS cut-offs for Toronto-based jobs, exploring employment in these specific regions could significantly boost your chances of nomination.

I Received an Invitation: What’s Next?

If you were one of the lucky 1,825 candidates invited:

Check Your Deadline: You have 60 days to submit a complete application to the OINP.

  1. Verify Documents: Ensure your profile data matches your actual documents (work experience letters, education credentials, etc.). Discrepancies can lead to rejection.

  2. Prepare for Federal: Once nominated by Ontario, you will be in a prime position to apply to the federal government for Permanent Residence (PR).

Didn’t Get Invited?

  • Don’t panic. This was just the first draw of the year.
  • Review Your Score: Compare your CRS score against today’s cut-offs (33–69 range).
  • Check Your NOC: Ensure your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code aligns with the targeted lists, especially if you work in healthcare, tech, or skilled trades.
  • Update Your Profile: Ontario considered profiles created between July 2, 2025, and January 28, 2026. Ensure your profile is active and up to date.

How We Can Help You Secure Your Nomination

  • The OINP is competitive, and a single error in your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code or documentation can lead to a rejected application—even if you have the points. With a tight 60-day deadline to submit your complete application, there is no room for guesswork.
  • Our immigration team specializes in turning “Invited” into “Nominated.” Here is how we support your journey:
  • Eligibility Audit: We review your profile against the latest stream-specific criteria to ensure you actually qualify before you pay the government fees.
  • NOC Code Optimization: We analyze your job duties to ensure you are applying under the correct NOC code—the #1 reason for OINP refusals.
  • Document Perfection: From employer reference letters to proof of funds, we ensure every document meets the strict OINP standards.
  • Representation: We act as your authorized representative, handling all communication with the province so you don’t miss critical updates.
