Why This Draw Matters

Two facts make this draw significant beyond the standard draw-day coverage.

First: the category is new. Transport was removed from Express Entry category-based selection in February 2025. It returned in February 2026 with a substantially different occupation list. Any candidate who assessed their Transport-category eligibility before February 2026 should reassess against the current four-occupation list — the old lists do not apply.

Second: the CRS gap is notable. The Transport cutoff of 470 sits between yesterday’s French-language draw (CRS 391) and the CEC draw (CRS 516). A transportation worker with CRS 470–515 who would not be invited in a CEC draw could have received an invitation today — if they hold one of the four qualifying NOCs and meet the experience requirement.

Which Occupations Qualify for the 2026 Transport Category?

IRCC currently lists four Transport-category occupations. The list is narrow — working in the transportation industry broadly does not make a candidate eligible.

A person may work for a trucking company, at an airport, for a logistics business, for an automotive company, or for a transportation operator — without necessarily holding one of the four NOCs currently designated. The candidate’s actual work duties, not the company name or job title, determine the correct NOC classification.

What Work Experience Is Required?

For the Transport occupations category, IRCC currently requires candidates to have accumulated, within the previous three years:

• At least 12 months of full-time work experience, or an equivalent amount of part-time experience
• In one of the four currently listed Transport occupations
• The experience does not have to be continuous
• The experience may have been acquired in Canada or abroad

The candidate must also qualify for one of the Express Entry programs (CEC, FSWP, or FSTP) before being considered in a category-based draw. Category eligibility alone is not sufficient — the underlying program eligibility must be established independently.

A candidate with CRS 470–515 who qualifies under a Transport occupation could have received an invitation today when they would not have qualified in the CEC draw. A candidate who qualifies for both CEC and Transport may have multiple opportunities depending on their profile and draw history.

Mississauga, Brampton and the wider GTA have large aviation, automotive, transportation and logistics sectors — Pearson International Airport, automotive assembly and repair facilities, freight and logistics operators, and bus and transit maintenance operations are all significant employers.

For immigration purposes, being employed in that sector is not sufficient. A candidate must determine:

1. What duties they actually perform day-to-day
2. Which of the 2021 NOC codes most accurately matches those duties
3. Whether that NOC appears in IRCC’s current Transport category list
4. Whether they have 12 months of qualifying experience in that NOC within the past three years
5. Whether they qualify for an underlying Express Entry program (CEC, FSWP, or FSTP)
6. Whether their CRS score is competitive

Two employees at the same company could have entirely different category eligibility: an aircraft mechanic (NOC 72404) is on the Transport list; a ground crew logistics coordinator is not. An automotive service technician (NOC 72410) qualifies; a service writer taking in vehicles does not.

What Invited Candidates Should Do Now

Step 1: Confirm the correct NOC

Do not rely on job title, employer title, business sector, or what a colleague used in their application. Review actual daily duties against the lead statement and main duties of the claimed NOC. The four Transport NOCs have specific duty descriptions — confirm the work performed genuinely matches.

Step 2: Confirm Transport-category work experience

Verify employment dates precisely, full-time or equivalent part-time hours, that the experience falls within the previous three years, and that employer documentation supports the claimed NOC duties. Foreign experience can count but must be documented as thoroughly as Canadian experience.

Step 3: Recalculate the CRS score

Confirm the score remains accurate: age, language results, education, Canadian and foreign work experience, spouse factors, and any provincial nomination. A score change after the ITA that drops the candidate below 470 may affect the application.

Step 4: Gather employment documentation

Employment reference letters (dates, hours, duties, wage, authorized signature), pay statements, employment contracts, tax records, work permits where applicable, and proof of foreign employment. Begin immediately — the 60-day deadline allows no room for delayed document collection.

Step 5: Review immigration history for consistency

The permanent residence application must be consistent with all prior study permit, work permit, visitor, and Express Entry applications. Prior refusals must be disclosed accurately. Address discrepancies proactively rather than leaving them for an officer to identify.

A job offer may increase CRS points in some circumstances but, as of March 25, 2025, arranged employment no longer adds CRS points under the current Express Entry rules.

Does receiving a Transport ITA guarantee permanent residence?
