CRS Cut-Off Score Hovers Near Two-Year Low in Latest Canadian Experience Class Draw

By Harkiran Singh Sidhu March 3, 2026

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted its latest Express Entry draw, continuing its heavy focus on domestic candidates. On March 3, 2026, IRCC issued 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) specifically to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program.

Notably, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score remained steady at 508, maintaining its position near a two-year low for this category. This represents a significant opportunity for temporary foreign workers and international graduates currently residing in Canada.

Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the March 3 CEC draw and what these current trends mean for prospective permanent residents.

March 3, 2026 Express Entry Draw Details

In this round, IRCC targeted candidates exclusively under the Canadian Experience Class, bypassing the general pool and overseas Federal Skilled Worker candidates.

  • Draw Date: March 3, 2026

  • Draw Type: Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

  • Invitations to Apply (ITAs) Issued: 4,000

  • Minimum CRS Cut-Off Score: 508

  • Tie-Breaking Rule: June 24, 2025, at 10:35 a.m. UTC. (Candidates who scored exactly 508 points were only invited if they submitted their Express Entry profile before this specific date and time).

Why a CRS of 508 is a “Two-Year Low”

Throughout late 2024 and 2025, CEC and General draws routinely saw CRS cut-off scores well above 520, peaking into the 530s and 540s due to highly competitive pools and extended pauses in category-specific selections.

By maintaining the cut-off at 508—the exact same score as the previous CEC draw on February 17, 2026—IRCC is demonstrating a sustained effort to clear out the upper-middle tier of the domestic candidate pool. With lower immigration targets set for 2026, many analysts feared CRS scores would skyrocket. However, because IRCC has heavily reduced its intake of overseas applicants in favor of domestic transitions, the score required for those already in Canada has softened to its most accessible point in 24 months.

2026 Express Entry Trends: The Domestic Priority

This latest round is the twelfth Express Entry selection of the year and the fourth dedicated entirely to the CEC category. IRCC’s strategy for the first quarter of 2026 is undeniable: transition temporary residents into permanent residents.

Out of the 39,112 ITAs issued so far in 2026, the distribution heavily favors those contributing to the local economy and specific demographic goals:

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 24,000 ITAs (across 4 draws)

  • French-Language Proficiency: 8,500 ITAs

  • Healthcare and Social Services: 4,000 ITAs

  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): 2,062 ITAs (across 5 draws)

  • Physicians with Canadian Work Experience: 391 ITAs

What This Means for Candidates in the Pool

If you received an ITA on March 3, you have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application. Accuracy is paramount; discrepancies between your Express Entry profile and your final documentation can lead to a rejection.

For candidates hovering just below the 508 mark (e.g., in the 490–505 range), the current trend is highly encouraging. If IRCC continues to conduct large-volume CEC draws (between 4,000 and 6,000 ITAs per round), the mathematical probability of the score dropping further increases as top-tier candidates are removed from the pool.

To improve your chances in upcoming draws, consider maximizing your CRS score by:

  1. Accumulating more Canadian work experience to hit the two- or three-year milestones.

  2. Retaking language tests (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF/TCF) to achieve a higher Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level.

  3. Exploring Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), which grant an automatic 600-point boost.
